The Fabulous Life of Mrs. Hadley

School has started (yikes), but things are already about 100 times better than last year. For one thing, I have a heap of a lot less students (more than a whole class worth- which is more than 3 hours grading papers worth) and this class seems to be less jaded by the ways of the world. Only 2 were suspened on the first day. Plus, I don't feel such a complete sense of overwhelming madness. To prove it, let me feel you in on year two at Alcatraz:

Yep, that is sunlight and I am already home! This is the first day of school even. I actually made it home in time for Oprah... except I'm boycotting Oprah right now so I got really board and ended up taking a 20 minute nap until Glenn Beck.

I inherited several items from teachers who moved on that are making my life loads more tolerable. The first is this utopian paper organizer. What the heck did I do without it last year? Also note that I finally finished the "road" that I started making the week before school started last year.

In fact, I am so less high strung this year that last night at 6:30 pm Quinn and I decided to go to Vegas (ON A SCHOOL NIGHT THE FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL NO LESS!!!). Yes, of course we ate at Cheesecake Factory, but it was kind of a big sacrifice because we were really wanting to hit up this new Vietnamese place we discovered. That bang bang chicken and shrimp and the crab wontons will get you every time. Old habbits die hard I suppose. We alse checked out the Miracle Mile shops and spent a while in H&M (aka- the second best retail store in the world). We got home at 2 am but that didn't stop me from having a chipper day with the little sluggers at school the next morning.

Whilst bonding in Vegas, I discussed with Quinn the hellish two years I have just survived and he pointed out that this explains much concerning my abrasive personality. You don't survive commuting every day for two semesters of 25 credits each at the end of 10 years of college while working 2-3 jobs, moving by yourself to Spain for the summer when you don't speak a lick of Spanish, jumping through 57 hoops to graduate without a minor, and teaching perhaps the most wretched students of your life the first year of your language arts and your entire tap career (and I repeat "decist michael, DECIST!!") all while sticking out a 3 year stint in the primary without having it affect you a bit. And I was already intense before the dang 24-month marathon comparible only to Dante's Inferno ensued. Sufice it to say, this is the first time in a LONG time... maybe ever, that I feel like I'm finally settling into life. No wonder I don't have friends.

I got a little stressed out reading that last paragraph. I am so happy for you that things are going better, this is how life is supposed to be... I think. I hope things continue to be this blissful for you for a long, long time.

HOw is school? I am so glad to hear that it is going better? Are you still teaching half eigth graders and half ninth graders? I am working about 20-25 hours a week at a maternity store (way fun and low stress) and just loving Pittsburgh and getting excited to have my baby in 10 weeks and be a stay-at-home mommy! I kinda miss SCMS, I hope it is going well! I am excited to check your blog to get updates! Love you lots!
