Kauai 2010 - Barking Sands Beach

We decided to chance the off-roading risk of killing the Lincoln by spending our last evening on the remote Barking Sands beach. This is a 20 mile+ stretch of secluded sandy beach that runs straight into the Nepali cliffs. The surf is ferocious so it's not a swimming beach, but it is the most beautiful beach I have ever been to in my life and I shed a tear when the sun set and it was time to go. Q and I both declared Barking Sands to be our "Happy Place" and have vowed to spend even more time here when we return to Kauai. It is the best place for shell searching and whale watching. There isn't another soul around and it was the perfect way to end our trip.

Meg got some maternity shots of me:

...And that's the end of Kauai 2010.

Kauai 2010 - Salt Pond Beach, Spouting Horn, Anini Beach, Nepali Coast

Some new spots, some traditions, and some adventure.
This is the rest of our Kauai trip.

SALT POND BEACH:

Salt Pond Beach was a great place for kids as the cove was small and there were some good spots for finding all sorts of sea creatures. We met up with some family and spent a few hours here before heading further toward the Nepali cliffs and Barking Sands.

SPOUTING HORN:

Spouting Horn has the best shopping on the island. In an hour, Q and I had left a good solid wad of cash here in exchange for some island souvies. Plus- I finally got a good pic of mom with the spout in the background. On previous trips, I have not timed her picture well and she hasn't let me forget it. We also watched several sea turtles swimming the surf from this vantage.

ANINI BEACH/STATE PARK:

We had to stop so I could use the facilities [AGAIN!], but it ended up being totally worth it because we discovered a new beach perfect for perfect pictures. It was shallow forever so you could walk out into the cove a good while.

NEPALI SEA TOURS:

We wanted Sheila to see the entire island, particularly the incredibly breathtaking Nepali Coast so we booked an entire Navy Seal boat and sent everyone (but me +one) on a day adventure. When they returned they looked pretty beat up as the seas were rough and rambunctious. They did get their feel of hundreds of spinner dolphins following them for miles and showing off with cool tricks as they jumped and played right next to the boat. This is another Kauai tradition.
